Stanford's Center for Digital Health (CDH), part of Stanford Medicine, has added Laura Paulus to its advisory board, the center announced this week. The appointment reflects CDH's ongoing effort to bring together leaders from a wide range of disciplines to help guide the future direction of digital medicine and health technology. "We are pleased to welcome Laura to the board. Her multidisciplinary expertise and vision will be a tremendous asset to the Center," said Eleni Linos, professor at Stanford and director of the Center for Digital Health, in a statement announcing the new addition.
A Collaborative Mission in Digital Medicine
CDH's mission—"shaping the future of digital health together"—underscores its focus on convening diverse experts to tackle high‑impact problems in medicine. Led by Director Eleni Linos, the center brings scientists, clinicians, engineers, ethicists, policymakers, industry leaders, and patients together to evaluate technologies rigorously and drive measurable improvements in health. Its annual Future of Health Technologies Symposium is a flagship forum where researchers, technology leaders, policymakers, and philanthropists translate ideas into practice.
Research Focused on Real-World Impact
In addition to the symposium, CDH funds multidisciplinary research grants that pair academic investigators and clinicians with industry experts to advance and validate real‑world solutions. Recent work spans topics from consumer health technologies to investigations of pharmacologic advances—including studies to understand the cardiometabolic effects of GLP‑1 therapies—reflecting the center's emphasis on practical, evidence‑driven inquiry.
Paulus joins the board with experience in health technology, wearables, and nutrition. Her background includes recognition on a "30 Under 30" list for a nutrition startup and academic training at Stanford in Human Biology, Nutrition, and Engineering. Sri Chandrasekar also agreed to join the advisory board; an experienced technology investor, he brings product and industry leadership that CDH leaders say will strengthen ties between academic research and commercial development. Both appointments place new voices alongside a roster that includes KX Jin, former vice president of health at Meta; Sumbul Desai, vice president of health at Apple; and Harvey Fineberg, former provost of Harvard and president of the National Academy of Medicine.
Balancing Innovation with Responsibility
CDH emphasizes balancing ambition with responsibility—advancing innovations like artificial intelligence while subjecting them to deep evaluation and multidisciplinary oversight. "There is tremendous potential in AI for medicine, but progress must be guided by rigorous research and contributions from experts across fields to ensure safety, efficacy and patient benefit," Euan Ashley, Chair of the Department of Medicine at Stanford and an Associate Director of CDH.
Paulus said she is grateful for the opportunity to work with Director Linos and the wider CDH community to help shape programs, partnerships, and research that translate innovation into measurable improvements in health outcomes. The center's model of convening the brightest minds across sectors, officials say, is precisely what this new era of medicine needs to produce safe, equitable, and ground‑breaking change.
